The return of the cold autumn winds signals the start of the agricultural show season. And in the Haut , it is the one in Mouthe that kicks off this Saturday, September 21. It has been exactly twenty years since the town hosted this typical agricultural event, the last time it was held was in 2004. And to celebrate this return to the village nicknamed “Little Siberia”, the team of organizers has seen things on a grand scale.

Maud Salvi, a member of the team, puts it simply: “We went all out.” That’s an understatement, since in addition to setting up this competition where cows are in the spotlight, no fewer than fifteen activities are organized throughout the day. “We’ve been working on this event for almost a year with the town and all our volunteers,” she says. “The village is proud to have the show on its premises. So, we all joined forces to be able to offer visitors something great.”

Cows, donkeys, sheepdogs, Comtois horses…

On the program, many activities are proposed to make this day even more festive. In addition to the cows, the farm animals will also be in the spotlight. “We are going to set up an educational center with a mini-farm. There will also be donkey rides, a demonstration of sheepdogs and an exhibition of Comtois horses,” lists Maud Salvi. Just that!

The world of agriculture, for young and old, cannot be left out. To do this, the organizers have thought of everything. “There will be cows to milk and paint for the children. Someone will make Morbier cheese and we will offer a car exhibition that brings together tractors from different eras, excavators and quads,” she continues.

“We feel ready”

While other editions in the canton were more limited in the number of activities, particularly due to a lack of staff. Maud Salvi is pleased to be able to count on the 150 or so volunteers. “It’s thanks to them that we can do all this, otherwise it wouldn’t be possible,” she explains, taking the example of the ball with orchestra organized in the evening. “If we can offer this, it’s precisely thanks to our volunteers.”

With just a few days to go before the start of the festivities, preparations are well underway: numerous decorations have been installed in every corner of the village. “Things are falling into place; the big day to get everything ready will be Friday. We feel ready,” she concludes.
