Following their marriage in April 2011, Prince William and Kate Middleton moved to Kensington Palacein London. After several years in the capital, the couple decided to move to Windsor. In the summer of 2022, they put down their suitcases in Adelaide Cottage with their three children, George, Charlotte and Louis.
Built in 1831, Adelaide Cottage is a property located to the east of Windsor Castle. While the Prince and Princess of Wales feel at home there, it consists of only four bedrooms. A little tight space for the whole family, who would have considered moving to the Royal Lodge.

Prince William and Kate Middleton want to renovate an annex
According to information from the Daily ExpressPrince William and Kate Middleton recently found a solution to the lack of space at Adelaide Cottage. Indeed, a Source close to the house told the daily that a “A property of considerable size has just been abandoned” next to their home. This is currently estimated at around £1 million.
This red brick annex could give them “lots of space“in case they decide to renovate it. They could create additional rooms. However, this decision would have consequences. It would remove them”from the list of potential candidates for the Royal Lodge”.
The Prince of Wales wants to personally finance the work
As of now, Prince William and Kate Middleton have not yet made their decision. If the annex could allow them to have additional space, it is “currently uninhabitable and requires major renovation work”.
The father of the family is “aware of public scrutiny” of the
royal family expenses. For this, he would like to personally cover renovation costs. With the Princess of Wales’ health improving, the family hopes “find the right time to launch the project”. Work which could therefore begin in the coming months.
