Since the right to vote was established, I have always voted”. Simone, 103 ans, has always lived in Montaigu-Vendée. And since women have been able to vote in France (1945), she hardly missed a single vote. “Everyone should go vote because France is in a terrible state. You have to think that there are children and grandchildren who will live afterwards. I listen to the radio, the TV, I don’t see, but I listen”insists Simone, the verb always very clear.

“It’s not for me, but for the children and grandchildren.”

It’s not for me, because at 103, you have nothing more to hope for, adds Simone, but there are children and grandchildren who must live and have a better life than we had. We had a not-so-great start to life. I was 18 when the war broke out. And afterwards, we saw all the progress that had been made. Everything went very well, but now we are tighter than we were a few years ago because we have to be careful about everything.”

The centenarian could vote by proxy, but wants to physically go to the polling station. For this, she can count on her daughter Gisèle, or for this Sunday on Véronique, her former nurse: “This is a very important service and I believe that the entire population should mobilize like this so that everyone can express themselves. They are completely free to choose who they vote for and it is important that they go and do it on their own.“.
