Swimming has been prohibited at Grazel beach in Gruissan since June 25. A municipal decree follows an alert from the Occitanie Regional Health Agency (ARS) reporting poor water quality due to bacteria.
With the start of summer, the upcoming holidays and rising temperatures, attendance at the beaches is expected to increase significantly in Occitania. However, swimming has been prohibited on Grazel beach in Gruissan, in Aude, since Tuesday June 25. A municipal decree was issued to this effect following analyzes from the Occitanie Regional Health Agency (ARS) revealing “poor quality of bathing water”.
The document signed by the mayor of Gruissan explains that the ban measure is due to the presence of intestinal enterococci in water. The presence of this bacteria in water is used as an indicator of water quality and the possible presence of other pathogens dangerous to human health. It demonstrates contamination by fecal matter and can cause various infections, especially in people with weakened immune systems.

“It is necessary to prohibit swimming and water activities on Grazel beach”, we can read in the municipal decree. “For your health, please respect the instructions of security and surveillance personnel,” indicates the town of Gruissan on its social networks. However, she specifies that “the risk to health is very low”.
The end date of the ban is not specified. It will remain in force “until the results of new analyzes allow swimming and water activities to be authorized again”, simply announces the municipal decree. However, the City has not communicated the date of these analyses.
