Presumably, Carlo Ancelotti should not respect his contract by staying at Real Madrid until June 2026. The favorite to take over as his possible successor would be none other than Xabi Alonso, currently stationed at Bayer Leverkusen.
The fourth season of Carlo Ancelotti's second term at Real Madrid (2013-2015 then from 2021 to present) should be the last. A few hours after the victory of the Merengue club against Las Palmas (4-1) which allowed Real to regain the lead of La Liga ahead of Atlético de Madrid, our colleagues from Onda Cero announced that the Italian technician would have decided to leave at the end of the season, despite his contract in force until 2026.
-Xabi Alonso, the big favorite to take over
Having become the most successful coach in the history of Real Madrid due to the recently won Intercontinental Cup (15 titles), Ancelotti would like to end his stay with the Madrid team this summer, even in the event of new titles and while management would like to see it continue. Our colleagues indicate that the Italian technician also feels that this second stage on the Real Madrid bench will end this summer, whatever happens. And a priori, a possible departure at the end of the season would not lead to retirement for the 65-year-old technician. He would have the idea of continuing to coach in another country, but not in Brazil precisely, the national team which has been linked to him.
The sequel, if this information were to be confirmed, could see Xabi Alonso succeed his former coach at Real Madrid then at Bayern Munich. The former midfielder, who had an almost perfect first full season at the helm of Bayer Leverkusen (Bundesliga and German Cup double with only one defeat in the Europa League final) remains under contract with the German club until in June 2026, however. But it is therefore possible that this season with Bayer will be his last, given the opportunity that could arise for him to coach a Real Madrid that he knows like the back of his hand due to his time as a player between 2009 and 2014.
