Get covered! The cold spreads its mantle over mainland France on Tuesday January 14. After a freezing night, the day should be one of the coldest of the week, according to Météo-France forecasts. With around 1C° in Lyon, 4°C in Paris, 0°C in Strasbourg and 2°C in Bordeaux, temperatures should be particularly low in the afternoon. The fault of “a“ticyclone positioned over northern Europe, combined with cold and dry air in low levels”specify the forecasters in a press release.
The day's minimums reached -10°C in places. It was -8.4°C in Béziers for example, according to the first readings from Météo-France. We have to come back “at the beginning of February 2023 to find equivalent thermal indicators on a national scale”. No less than 34 departments are affected by yellow “severe cold” vigilance, according to the latest Météo-France bulletin.
If temperatures are “fresh”they remain “classics for the season”. It is on average 4.2°C colder than the average temperature measured on January 14 between 1971 and 2000, according to the franceinfo dashboard. Temperatures will rise overnight, explains Météo-France, thanks to “a mass of softer, but more humid air”. If the frosts will be weaker on Thursday, they “should intensify again at the end of the week”.
