The ZDF crime series “The Dead from Lake Constance” loses one of its main characters. In the episode “Medusa” Alina Fritsch can be seen for the last time as Inspector Luisa Hoffmann.

Crime fans will once again get their money’s worth on ZDF at prime time on January 13th. The Mainz station is showing another 90-minute version of the German-Austrian series “The Dead from Lake Constance”. The 21st episode entitled “Medusa” is the last with Alina Fritsch. The Viennese is giving up her role as department inspector Luisa Hoffmann to devote herself to new professional tasks.

The exit comes as quite a surprise, as Fritsch only joined the production in 2023, when Nora Waldstätten left the series after eight years. A final farewell: The character of detective inspector Hannah Zeller died in a motorcycle accident.

This much can be revealed in advance: Hoffmann will not die too, but will quit her job in Bregenz. She wants to return to Vienna and make a new start there. The trigger for this decision is a nerve-wracking case in which the investigator becomes personally involved.

Body found on Lake Constance

It all begins with a woman’s corpse that washes up on the shore of Lake Constance. It is Vera Grimm (Victoria Hauer), whom forensic pathologist Thomas Egger (Stefan Pohl) saw with a little boy that morning. Ronja Löffler (Helene Stupnicki), the victim’s sister, and her husband Andy (Andreas Kiendl) react with dismay to the news of his death, but also seem to be hiding something.

During a check, Hoffmann and her colleague Micha Oberländer come across Andy’s criminal record. He was convicted of burglary a few years ago. Löffler’s former accomplice Dominik Haas (Erol Nowak) is still serving a prison sentence, but has escaped from prison. As it turns out, the criminal has kidnapped Andy’s youngest son Augustin (Benedikt Biller), whom Vera Grimm wanted to take to school.

See you again with your ex

Haas only wants to release the child when he receives a work of art worth millions from Löffler: the two once stole the fine gold bust of Medusa from the Kunsthaus Bregenz. However, Andy swears that the loot fell overboard during a storm and is lying at the bottom of Lake Constance. However, Haas doesn’t want to believe him.

Of all people, Hoffmann’s criminal ex-boyfriend Antonio Zübert (Luka Dimić) was Haas’s cellmate and could provide crucial clues. But this comes at a high price: He demands a meeting with Liv (Viola Hornsmann), his daughter with Luisa.

Hoffmann under pressure

For the inspector, this is actually out of the question: she doesn’t want to subject her child to the traumatic encounter with her manipulative father. On the other hand, it’s about the life of a little boy. Their hope lies in Oberländer and Chief Inspector Thomas Komlatschek (Hary Prinz): Will the two of them manage to track down Haas even without information from Zübert?

If you don’t want to wait until the linear broadcast of “Medusa” for the resolution, you can stream the crime thriller directed by Patricia Frey in advance in the ZDFmediathek.
