LOA: Tesla sells off its Model Y Long Autonomy Propulsion!

LOA: Tesla sells off its Model Y Long Autonomy Propulsion!

Tesla is offering at the beginning of January 2025 a LOA 100 euros cheaper on its Model Y Long Autonomy than the Propulsion.

It’s the world turned upside down! Tesla is sending clear signals: it is no longer trying to sell too many Model Y Propulsion, but rather Model Y Long Autonomy Propulsion. Obviously, it is appropriate to clear stocks before the arrival of the new, deeply revised version. But still, at this point…

At the start of January 2025, we see that the Long Autonomy Propulsion is offered on LOA (Rental with Purchase Option) at 299 euros/month over 36 months, compared to 399 euros/month for the less interesting Propulsion version. Less interesting? Yes, because it is more expensive with equivalent equipment, but a less generous battery (455 km of autonomy, compared to 600 km for the High Autonomy Propulsion), and much slower recharging speeds (up to 175 kW, compared to 250 kW).

If this is not to dissuade you from this first choice, we must explain. Better: the Full Autonomy version is offered at the same price of 399 euros/month!

What does the contract say?

To understand, let's read the lines of the 36 months and 30,000 kilometers offer: Tesla asks for a contribution of 10,230 euros (-2000 euros ecological bonus) during the first rent, followed by 35 others of 299 euros. That is, ultimately, a spread cost of 18,695 euros. This is more or less the discount that you will incur if you buy the vehicle, so you might as well not put yourself at risk. Renting is more advantageous.

In the case of the Model Y Propulsion, the offer is still 36 months and 30,000 kilometers, but with a first rental of 11,230 euros (-2000 euros ecological bonus), which is already an additional cost of 1000 euros. Then follow 35 rents of 399 euros, for a total cost of 23,195 euros. A delta of 4,500 euros over the same period with the Model Y Grande Autonomie Propulsion!

The primary reason lies in the borrowing rate: 6.99% for Propulsion, compared to… 0.99% for Long Autonomy Propulsion.

And just to discourage you from taking a Propulsion, its availability has been postponed to May 2025… compared to January 2025 (i.e. immediately) for the large battery version. The direction deserves to be clear, right?
