Blues coach Didier Deschamps announced on Wednesday that he will leave the French Football team after the 2026 World Cup which will take place in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
“I have been here since 2012. I am scheduled until 2026, the next World Cup, but it will stop there because it has to at some point. In my head, it’s very clear,” he told the media.
Coach of the French team since July 2012, the 56-year-old former world champion (2018) thus confirms his intention not to seek a new extension at the head of the Blues.
“I did my time too, with the same desire, the same passion to maintain the French team at the highest level, but 2026 is very good,” he said.
In 2023, the French Football Federation (FFF) extended the contract of coach Didier Deschamps until 2026, while the French team had just lost to Argentina in the final of the World Cup in Qatar. .
His mandate renewed, the technician notably led the French selection in the last four of Euro 2024, and must now focus on the next two events: the League of Nations this year and, above all, the World Cup which will take place in 2026 in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
