What happened

The actress won for her performance in “I'm Still Here”, a film in which she plays Eunice Paiva. She competed against Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman, Tilda Swinton, Kate Winslet and Pamela Anderson. The ceremony took place this Sunday (5).

Upon taking the stage to receive the award from Viola Davis, Torres thanked director Walter Salles and recalled that his mother, Fernanda Montenegro, was on the Golden Globe stage 25 years ago, competing for “Central do Brasil”. “It was an incredible year for the performances of so many actresses here, who I admire so much. Of course, I want to thank Walter Salles, my partner, my friend. What a story, Walter! And I want to dedicate this award to my mother. You have no idea ! She was here twenty-five years.”

She took the opportunity to talk about her character. “This is proof that art lasts in life even during difficult times that Eunice Paiva went through. With so many problems in the world today, so much fear, this is a film that helped us think about how to survive in times like these.

Based on the book of the same name by Marcelo Rubens Paiva, published in 2015, “I'm Still Here” tells the story of Eunice Paiva, the writer's mother. Played by Torres Eunice, she faces the violence of the military regime after the arrest and disappearance of her husband, the impeached deputy Rubens Paiva (Selton Mello), in the early 1970s.
