Hooked by Lille (1-1) before the holidays in L1, OM resumed their march forward by clearly dominating Le Havre on Sunday evening (5-1), at the end of the 16th day. In the ranking, Marseille is alone second and stands away from Monaco.
Already in difficulty several times against low blocks at home since the start of the season, OM passed a new test in this register against Le Havre. And this time, the Olympians did not hesitate to achieve a great success which allowed them to consolidate their second place, now three points ahead of Monaco, third. With ample possession of the ball but few spaces to exploit, Roberto De Zerbi's men found the fault for the first time on a long shot from Rongier, after a missed pass from Kechta full axis (1-0, 25th) .
Shortly after, it was Nadir, surprise starter of the day in the absence of Hojbjerg, who distinguished himself by scoring with a cross shot from the left in an off-center position (2-0, 39th). In the process, OM increased their lead a little further thanks to a header from Maupay who took advantage of a delivery from Merlin following a Murillo cross (3-0, 43rd).
Fifth defeat in a row for Le Havre
Maupay could have scored a double at the start of the second half, but the Marseille striker initially crossed his shot too much (48th), before finding the bar on a good action, with a one-touch recovery after a pass lobed from Greenwood (56th). Maupay then gave way to Wahi who was able to improve his entry into play with a goal. On a long ball from Murillo behind the defense, Greenwood ideally served the former RC Lens player who just had to finish (4-0, 66th). Also entering during the match, Garcia also invited himself to the party by scoring from close range on a strong cross from Murillo (5-0, 75th).
Opposite, Le Havre had very little to eat during this match. We had to wait until the last minutes of play to see Didier Digard's men appear dangerous. They managed to find the fault on their first opportunity, thanks to a victorious header from Ayew who well anticipated Rulli's exit after a cross from Joujou (5-1, 85th). With this setback, Le Havre have a fifth consecutive defeat in all competitions.
