For two months, Roberto De Zerbi's influence seems to be clearly on the side of OM. As L'Equipe tells us in today's edition, the Italian coach does everything on a daily basis to bring the team closer to its standards. To improve cohesion and discipline, De Zerbi notably organized a training course in Mallemort, combining intensive training and moments of sharing. This stay made it possible to strengthen the bonds between the players and to establish increased rigor, with awakenings at dawn and a redefined hierarchy. Some executives, like Valentin Rongier, have found a central place, while others, like Lilian Brassier, have been sidelined.
De Zerbi sees himself staying 4-5 years at OM!
Tactically, the Italian coach opted for a 3-4-3 system after some introspection during the international break. This reorganization stabilized the defense and optimized individual performances, notably those of Mason Greenwood, freed from certain defensive tasks. Despite obvious progress, defense remains the team's Achilles heel, conceding too many goals. The imminent arrival of Luiz Felipe, released by Al-Ittihad, should strengthen this sector.
But in the meantime, with a more disciplined, united and balanced team, the results are clearly improving. Which pushes Roberto De Zerbi to settle down more than ever for the long term at OM. He who showed cash at the beginning of November after a defeat at Auxerre – “If I'm the problem, I'm ready to leave” – is holding a diametrically opposed speech today. According to the daily, De Zerbi confides internally that he sees himself remaining at OM for at least “four, five years”. Obviously a state of mind which should delight the supporters and which would also make De Zerbi the coach with the longest lifespan in the history of OM.
