PEORIA (25News Now) – Round-the-clock snow removal starts at 7 a.m. Sunday in Peoria.
With forecasts calling for two-to-four inches in the city, the public works department said in a release that its “Snowfighters” will start on Peoria’s primary streets and emergency snow routes. Crews will continue to focus on those streets while the snow is falling.
Once two inches of snow has fallen, public works officials said work will start on residential streets. With a forecast for two or more inches, a parking ban will remain in effect for 48 hours on Peoria’s snow routes.
In preparation for the storm, the city said public works crews on Friday applied liquid pretreatments to overpasses, bridges, and hills.
City leaders warn travel may become hazardous at times during periods of heavy snow and wind gusts of up to 30 mph. Roads can freeze or refreeze quickly, so city officials offer the following advice:
- Slow down, accelerate and brake gradually, and use extreme caution.
- Give yourself extra distance between your vehicle and snowplows.
- Carry an emergency kit in your vehicle.
