Having won their first Premier League game against Brentford 4-1 in January 2022, Southampton have now lost each of their last four against the Bees, conceding three goals in three of those matches.
Brentford won 2-0 in their last away league game against Southampton in March 2023 – they’ve never won consecutive league visits against them before.
As a Premier League side, Southampton have won their first league game in three of the last four calendar years, including a 4-1 win over Brentford in 2022. However, they did lose their first match of 2023 1-0 against Nottingham Forest.
Southampton have picked up just one win and six points in 19 games in the Premier League this season (W1 D3 L15). Only one team has ever won six points through their opening 20 games of a campaign, with Sunderland doing so in 2005-06 (6), going on to finish bottom with 15 points.
Brentford have lost 17 of their last 23 away Premier League matches (W3 D3) and are winless in all nine away games this season (D2 L7), with no side picking up fewer points on the road than the Bees (2).
Southampton have lost their opening two Premier League matches under new manager Ivan Juric. Six previous managers have lost their opening three league games with the Saints, most recently Nathan Jones in the 2022-23 campaign.
Brentford only won six of their first 17 Premier League games against sides in the relegation zone (D4 L7) but have since won their last three in a row, scoring five goals in each of their last two wins (5-1 vs. Luton in April last season, 5-3 vs. Wolves in October this season).
Southampton have lost their last four home Premier League matches, shipping 14 goals in the process. Only twice have the Saints lost five in a row on home soil, doing so in runs ends in August 1998 and February 2023.
Brentford scored 62 Premier League goals in 2024 – none of the first 10 goals were scored or assisted by either Bryan Mbeumo or Yoane Wissa but 33 of their last 52 goals in 2024 saw either Mbeumo or Wissa involved in the goal (63%).
18-year-old Tyler Dibling has scored two Premier League goals this season for Southampton, a tally that makes him their joint top scorer. Only one teenager has scored more times in a Premier League campaign for the Saints – Matt Oakley in 1996-97 (3).
