Having won their first Premier League game against Brentford 4-1 in January 2022, Southampton have now lost each of their last four against the Bees, conceding three goals in three of those matches.

As a Premier League side, Southampton have won their first league game in three of the last four calendar years, including a 4-1 win over Brentford in 2022. However, they did lose their first match of 2023 1-0 against Nottingham Forest.

Southampton have lost their opening two Premier League matches under new manager Ivan Juric. Six previous managers have lost their opening three league games with the Saints, most recently Nathan Jones in the 2022-23 campaign.
Brentford only won six of their first 17 Premier League games against sides in the relegation zone (D4 L7) but have since won their last three in a row, scoring five goals in each of their last two wins (5-1 vs. Luton in April last season, 5-3 vs. Wolves in October this season).
