End 2024 in style. Victor Wembanyama's Spurs defeated the Los Angeles Clippers in their final game of the year. Still driven by a great Victor Wembanyama (27 points), they are in 9th place in the Western Conference, still in the race to secure a place in the playoffs.

We usually say it but in the NBA everything changes very quickly. Relegated to the bottom of the league last year, the San Antonio Spurs are performing much better this year. They concluded 2024 on a positive note with a big victory against the Los Angeles Clippers (122-86). Enough to allow them to move into 2025 with a positive record, 17 victories for 16 defeats.

These Spurs, a still young team, rank in an interesting 9th place in the Western Conference ahead of the Warriors of Stephen Curry or the Suns of Kevin Durant and Devin Booker. And if it works so well this year, it is largely thanks to Victor Webanyama.

“Still things to learn”

The Frenchman is undoubtedly the best player on the team and he proved it again last night. With 27 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists in 26 minutes he led his team to victory. Spurs' large lead even allowed him to have a little rest at the end of the match. Despite this big victory, he confided “it's a battle every night” in a post-match interview, insisting that this victory “felt good”.

Victor Wembanyama has had an unreal December for the Spurs:

He concluded his month of December with a whopping 315 points, 111 rebounds, 53 assists, 50 blocks and 42 3-point shots taken, figures never seen before in a month in the history of the North American league. “Madness happens by itself,” he said, confident in his talent and his game. Even though he is only in his second year, the NBA already places him 5th of his ranking of the best players of the season. However, by his own admission, he “still has things to learn”.

When a journalist asked him what to wish him for this new year, the Frenchman first replied “happiness and health” before adding, ambitiously, “the Playoffs”. The Frenchman is learning quickly, his team is progressing and if they continue this way, there is no reason why this wish cannot come true. To add a little happiness to the Frenchman, we would also like to wish him a first selection for the All-Star Game, which should not fail to happen.
