A thank you from Johannes B. Kerner during the big ZDF New Year’s Eve party caused a lot of irritation for colleague Andrea Kiewel.
Berlin – Last New Year’s Eve (December 31st), Johannes B. Kerner (60) and Andrea Kiewel (59) welcomed viewers to their show “Welcome 2025” at the Brandenburg Gate. However, a strange moment occurred: the popular ZDF presenter was suddenly completely thrown off guard by a fact.

Since 2010, viewers have been able to look forward to Germany’s biggest New Year’s Eve show live on ZDF every year. On the stage in front of Berlin’s most famous landmark, the Brandenburg Gate, the biggest stars in the music industry provide the best entertainment. This was also the case last New Year’s Eve.
The presenter duo Johannes B. Kerner and Andrea Kiewel welcomed, among others, music producer Alex Christensen (57), pop star Maite Kelly (45), singer-songwriter Peter Schilling (68), singer Sarah Engels (32) and rapper Shirin David (29). in their popular New Year’s Eve show.

Shortly before the end of the broadcast, Johannes B. Kerner took the opportunity to thank an employee behind the scenes who was there for the very last time at the New Year’s Eve show: “Birgit, thank you for all the years in which we made television shows together. […] We wish you only the very best.” But the thanks caused a lot of irritation to colleague Andrea Kiewel. “To whom?” asked the moderator, visibly confused.
After Johannes B. Kerner explained it to her, the 59-year-old directed the attention back to the audience. But a little later, Andrea Kiewel had to ask her colleague again: “Birgit is quitting? I didn’t know that at all.” Sad news for the popular presenter – but there was also some good news for her: Johannes B. Kerner will continue to stay by her side in the next few years. “You won’t get rid of me that easily,” joked the 60-year-old.
