Thus, the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) would like to create new off-peak hours in summer. This would go from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. On the other hand, from March to September, the off-peak hours system was to continue at night and disappear during the day, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Everything would be done with even more attractive prices. A way to encourage households to subscribe to the off-peak hours option. Users could therefore recharge their electric cars during the day, at attractive prices. Enough to weigh on the electricity bill.
With this decision, the public authorities would like to encourage consumers to use electricity when the production of solar and photovoltaic energy is at its maximum. Energy that would not need to be stored, which could be used directly and relieve the network at other times of the day.
Off-peak hours, so advantageous?
With this, Emmanuelle Wargon, president of the CRE, wishes to better adapt to household uses. This by bringing “consistency between prices and production capacities”. Because certain off-peak hours “are poorly located, around 7, 8 a.m. or around 5 p.m.”.
However, we must “guarantee that off-peak hours remain advantageous. Today you need 30% of your consumption in off-peak hours for this to become attractive.” Which is not always the case currently.
Remember that, at EDF for example, the off-peak rate is €0.2068/kWh, while the basic rate is €0.25/kWh and €0.27/kWh during peak hours. Enough to increase prices as well.
