Chris Kavanagh was correct to award Tottenham a penalty against Wolves after Brennan Johson was brought down in the penalty area, according to Mike Dean.

The Welshman went down in the box under a challenge from Andre, giving the referee no other choice but to award a spot-kick and giving Spurs a chance to take the lead on Sunday (29 December).

Son Heung-min saw his subsequent penalty saved by Jose Sa before Johnson netted moments before the half-time whistle, but Kavanagh has been backed for his decision to point to the spot anyway.

Speaking live via Sky Sports News [29 December, 3:44pm]Dean said: “It’s good by the attacker. He just moves across slightly and Andre hits the back of his leg. It’s a clear penalty, and once given on-field, it wasn’t going to be overturned.”

Son Heung-min continues horrendous form in Tottenham v Wolves

Son had the perfect opportunity to get his season back on track because, even with goals against Manchester United and Chelsea this month, he has looked a shadow of himself.

Of course, all of Ange Postecoglou’s squad has been struggling in recent weeks, losing games they definitely should not and claiming unexpected victories elsewhere but his form has been worrying.

The South Korean international still has five goals and six assists to his name in the Premier League this season but it certainly feels as though Johnson and Dejan Kulusevski are carrying the attack forward.

Luckily for Son, the aforementioned duo have linked up yet again to help take the lead, putting his penalty miss behind them and taking a lead into the half-time break.

Supporters and his manager alike will be hoping that the 32-year-old can rediscover his former self and begin to enjoy his football on the pitch again.

In other Tottenham news, Ange Postecoglou is surely just shooting himself in the foot with a new decision made on an academy star.
