A former mentor from “The Voice” took to social media to pay tribute to a friend and colleague after his untimely death. “Beautiful Monster” singer Ne-Yo recently took on the role of manager for professional fighter Paul Bamba, noted NBC News. On December 27, Ne-Yo and the Bamba family released a statement via Instagram indicating the boxer had died.

Ne-Yo was a mentor on “The Voice” during season 2 of the show, working with Cee Lo Green’s team.

Ne-Yo & Paul Bamba’s Family Feels ‘Profound Sorrow’ Over the Boxer’s Death

The post on Ne-Yo’s Instagram page featured a photo of Bamba with a statement in white text over the image.

“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of beloved son, brother, friend and boxing champion Paul Bamba, whose light and love touched countless lives,” the statement began.

The statement continued, “He was a fierce yet confident competitor with an unrelenting ambition to achieve greatness. But more than anything, he was a tremendous individual that inspired many with his exceptional drive and determination.”

Ne-Yo and the family noted they were “heartbroken by his passing” and asked for “privacy and understanding during this difficult time as we collectively navigate our grief.”

Over 600 fans commented on Ne-Yo’s Instagram post confirming Bamba’s death. A couple of people noted they spoke with Bamba mere days before his death. Others noted that the fighter was gone too soon.

Many of the messages contained notes of support directed at both Ne-Yo and the Bamba family.

“Wow. In shock. So sorry to hear. I’m grateful to have met and crossed paths with him. A really genuine soul. Rest in Peace Paul,” professional boxer Mariah Turner wrote.

The Pair’s Professional Partnership Had Just Started

As TMZ noted, Bamba was the first fighter to sign with Ne-Yo as he delves into the world of boxing management. The media outlet shared that the two men have known one another for quite some time.

The professional collaboration between Ne-Yo and Bamba was announced on November 25. Bamba entered the partnership with a record of 13 straight knockouts in the ring.

“I’m honored to work with NE-YO in this capacity and I’m grateful for his unwavering confidence in me,” Bamba said of the decision to work with the singer.

Bamba added, “I know he has the ability to open new doors and create opportunities for me to elevate as a fighter. It’s going to be an exciting new chapter.”

Bamba battled and beat Rogelio “Porky” Medina on December 21.
