One person died in a major accident which occurred this Sunday December 29 on the M7 near the Feyzin refinery. A man took the road in the wrong direction before the collision.

One person died during a major traffic accident that occurred this Sunday, December 29 on the M7 near Feyzin opposite the refinery, BFM learned from the Rhône firefighters.

The tragedy occurred around 5:20 a.m. on the highway in southern Lyon. For reasons still unknown, a 39-year-old man took the M7 in the wrong direction at that time, according to a source close to the matter at BFM Lyon.

Young victims

Alone in his vehicle, the man then hit another car. Inside the latter, five passengers aged around twenty.

One died during the accident, three others were treated in absolute emergency and the last in relative emergency. Three of the victims were incarcerated when emergency services arrived. The occupant of the car who was driving in the wrong direction was also slightly injured and was taken to hospital.

The motorway was closed for several hours, in the North-South direction towards , to allow emergency services and motorway services to continue their interventions. The Rhône prefecture indicates that traffic was able to resume around 8:45 a.m.
