Known for a long time for her successful daily newspaper, More beautiful lifewhich also left its mark this year with an unexpected revival, Marseille is not left out when it comes to big-budget productions from cinema and international platforms.
Marseille, filming location
Marseille consolidates its position as one of the most attractive centers of France for all metropolitan production companies (cinema, platform, television series). For example, in 2022, the metropolis welcomed 350 productionsrepresenting 2,200 days of filming and generating economic benefits estimated at nearly 110 million euros.
Although official figures for 2024 are not yet available, Marseille has been the scene of numerous filmings, sometimes with the participation of grandes figures of French cinema.
Successful feature films
On the feature film side, the city will have seen the creation of Julien Royal’s new film, Fight(New Riches, En passant pécho), by ChiFouMi productions (L’Amour ouf, Their children after them), also at the helm of Chien 51by Cédric Jimenez, filmed in the city with, among others, Gilles Lellouche, Adèle Exarchopoulos and Louis Garrel.
Marseille also hosted the filming of Fastdirected by Morgan S. Dalibert (Radar films), with Paola Locatelli and Alban Lenoir, The Amazon gang (Cheyenne Federation), with Izia Higelin, Lyna Khoudry and Laura Felpin, as well as IS, with Cyril Gane and Alice Belaïdi. She also saw rapper Soprano take on his first major film role in Marius and the guardians of the Phocaean city.
French series
On the series side, the city saw the birth of the second seasons of successful series Escort Boys (Amazon) and Peace of Marseilles (Gaumont tv, Netflix), as well as that of Drops of God (best drama series award at the International Emmy Awards).
The director Igor Gottesman (Family Business, Fiasco) also chose Marseille as the playground for its new Netflix series.
And, of course, More beautiful life continues its adventure, even more beautiful… “Phocean Hollywood” still has bright days ahead of it!
