Jeju Air B737-800 Jeju-Beijing Declares Emergency, Diverts to Seoul

BREAKING…

A Jeju Air Boeing 737-800 en route to Beijing from Jeju declared an emergency before diverting to Seoul earlier today.

Jeju Air flight 7C8135, operated by a Boeing 737-800 was en route to Beijing Daxing International Airport (PKX). The aircraft was performing a scheduled service from Jeju International Airport (CJU).

The aircraft was in cruising flight transiting the Yellow Sea when flight crew declared an emergency. A descent and diversion to Searle Incheon International Airport (ICN) was then carried out.

Flight crew squawked emergency transponder code 7700 when established on the descent on track to the diversion airport.

The nature of the emergency prompting the off-track diversion is not yet known.

Flight data shows that flight 7C8135 had made an on-time departure from Jeju International Airport at 1151 local time on 27December.

The flight had then set course normally and had climbed to cruising altitude FL320 prior to the emergency being declared.

Flight crew squawked transponder code 7700 whilst on descent through FL180 at 0413 UTC.

The aircraft conducting the 7C8135 service to Beijing Daxing International Airport was a Boeing 737-800, registered HL8088. This is a 15.4 year old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the carrier Jeju Air.

It has been in operational service with the airline since February 2017. Prior to its current service it was operated by Ryanair since its initial delivery from the factory in September 2009.
