The year 2024 ends with this weather

The last few days it has been quite gloomy in our country with hardly any hours of sunshine. You can read in this article whether we can expect some sun again in the last days of the year and what the weather will be like during New Year’s Eve.

It’s been a while since we’ve seen the sun exuberant in many places, but that could change this Friday. However, there are places where it will probably remain gray all day long. It remains mild with maximum temperatures between 5 and 9 degrees. You can read all the details about this Friday’s weather and whether you can see the sun today in our extensive weather report.

Mostly dry weekend

The last weekend of 2024 seems to be largely dry. Once again, cloud fields dominate the weather picture, which can be persistent, especially on Saturday. Fog or mist also occurs regionally, especially in the north and west. The day will probably be largely gray here again. There may be a lot of room for the sun in the east and southeast. The temperature eventually rises to 3 degrees in the Ardennes to about 7 degrees in Antwerp and Brussels. There is hardly any wind. In the evening and night leading up to Sunday, if it clears up long enough, the temperature inland can drop to freezing point. It can freeze several degrees in the High Fens.

The second day of the weekend is also quite quiet. There is a weak to moderate southwest wind and again many cloud fields are active. There will probably no longer be any fog or mist and the sun may even break through the cloud cover every now and then later in the day. It certainly won’t be sunny. It remains persistently mild with maximum temperatures ranging from 3 degrees in the Ardennes to 8 or 9 degrees in Lower Belgium.

Stormy and wet New Year’s Eve?

The last two days of the year pass without any shocking weather changes. Once again, cloud fields continue to determine the weather picture. Monday will probably be largely dry, although some light rain may fall locally from thicker clouds. The maximum temperatures are around 8 degrees in Flanders.

New Year’s Day also seems to be dry for a long time, but during the evening an area of precipitation approaches the country. It looks like it will rain from the west during the night. There is also a strong southwest wind. The course and timing of the precipitation area will determine whether we will actually experience a wet New Year’s Eve with possibly a lot of wind, but this is still uncertain. In any case, it seems that the eastern regions have better prospects for a drier New Year.

It doesn’t seem to get cold during New Year’s Eve. Due to a combination of a lot of wind and quite a bit of cloud, it hardly cools down. We will probably have to make do with temperatures between 4 and 8 degrees, which makes it mild.

Snow chances in the new year?

If we take a quick look at the weather at the start of the new year, there is hope for winter lovers. It is not yet convincing, but there are signals that we may be faced with winter troubles. The temperature seems to drop considerably and the variability seems to predominate. If all goes well, it can temporarily become white somewhere, this is mainly the case in the Ardennes.
