Thursday, December 19 marks a day of meteorological transition in the Var. The morning begins under overcast skies, accompanied by patches of fog in the hinterland. While temperatures are mild on the coast, the atmosphere remains cooler inland. As the afternoon progresses, the sky will begin to clear, announcing a gradual return of the sun in the days to come. However, a stormy wind will arrive in the evening, radically changing the weather conditions.
A gentle but foggy morning
The sky will be largely overcast this morning, particularly inland where patches of fog will limit visibility. Morning temperatures will vary between 6°C in the north of the department, 10°C inland and will reach 13°C on the coast. The wind, meanwhile, will remain calm, providing a respite before the expected change in the evening.
An afternoon marked by sweetness
With the sun making a few shy appearances, temperatures will rise slightly. Here are the forecasts for certain towns in the Var:
- Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer: 17°C
- Toulon: 17°C
- Hyères: 16°C
- Brignoles: 13°C
- Draguignan: 15°C
- Saint-Tropez: 16°C
- Fréjus: 15°C
This relative mildness will be accompanied by the beginnings of a big blue sky for the days to come, although the appearance of the wind from the beginning of the evening will bring a completely different dynamic.
Evening and night: strong wind alert
The morning calm will give way, from the evening, to gusts of wind reaching 70 km/h everywhere in the Var, gradually intensifying to peak at 85 km/heven 95 km/h in Saint-Tropez in the night. This increase in power will lead to the transition to yellow alert strong wind by Météo France from this Thursday. The wind will play a key role in completely clearing the sky, providing a starry but choppy night.
Sunrise and sunset
In Toulon, the sun will rise at 8h03 and will lie down at 17h03marking one of the shortest days of the year with a solar angle peaking at 23,5° at 12:33 p.m. The UV index will be low, 1reflecting the period of solar minimum. The days will gradually start to get longer from tomorrow, although this gain will first occur in the evening.
