The Powering Renewable Energy Opportunities (PREO) program has launched a call for projects aimed at businesses, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and civil society organizations (CSOs) in sub-Saharan Africa. This call aims to support Productive Use of Renewable Energy (PURE) initiatives with the aim of improving livelihoods, increasing income and strengthening the climate resilience of local communities.
Objectives and beneficiaries of the call for projects
The PREO program seeks to encourage innovative and sustainable solutions in the sub-Saharan region, particularly those that make productive use of renewable energy sources. The proposed projects must aim to improve the lives of populations by promoting sustainable economic development through green technologies.
Eligible structures must be legally registered in sub-Saharan Africa, with the exception of South Africa. The call for projects is open to start-ups and NGOs which are at an advanced stage of their concept or which have already started their operational activities. Projects may involve several renewable energy sources, such as biogas, geothermal, hydroelectricity, solar photovoltaic, solar thermal and wind energy.
Details of the call for projects and financing conditions
The maximum grant amount allocated for each project is 200,000 euros. Projects should last between 12 and 24 months, with a clear objective of impact on local communities. This initiative offers a significant financial opportunity for companies and organizations wishing to develop sustainable energy solutions in the sub-Saharan region.
Applications must be submitted in English, and the deadline for submitting proposals is January 31, 2025. Selected projects will have the opportunity to benefit from financial support which may cover different facets of their development, including installation green technologies, training of the local workforce and support for sustainable entrepreneurship.
Why participate in this call for projects?
This program represents a strategic opportunity for companies and NGOs working in the renewable energy sector in sub-Saharan Africa. In addition to funding, beneficiaries will have the chance to contribute to global sustainable development goals, while having a direct impact on reducing poverty, improving living conditions and combating the effects of climate change.
Projects that meet these criteria can play a central role in accelerating the energy transition on the African continent, by promoting better accessibility to green energy for the most vulnerable communities. In addition, the selected initiatives can benefit from the expertise and networks of the PREO program, thus contributing to their sustainability and scalability.
A step towards a sustainable future
This PREO call for projects represents much more than simple financial assistance. It is a platform of opportunities for companies and NGOs who wish to make a positive difference in sub-Saharan Africa, by developing sustainable and resilient energy solutions. Applications must be submitted by January 31, 2025, so don’t miss this chance to support the development of a greener and more inclusive future.
