After five years of titanic work and renovations, Notre-Dame de Paris has regained its splendor. The religious building officially reopened its doors this weekend. On Saturday, December 7, a historic ceremony was organized to which many political figures from around the world and crowned heads were invited. Festivities followed by an exceptional concert broadcast on France 2 and on the airwaves of Radio Francemixing classical and electronic music. In front of the journalist, the former Minister of Culture, who closely followed the stages of the construction site, shared details on the reconstruction of the building.

She explained that numerous proposals had been made concerning the spire, particularly on its design and architecture, alongside the chief architect, Philippe Villeneuve. The latter also recalled that through his function, “contrary to what we believe”, he was not there to do what he wanted but had rules to follow. “As chief architect I can't do anything other than that”, he added. “Philippe, remember, it's because I twisted my hand a little when I arrived on July 7 in charge at the Ministry of Culture, started Roselyne Bachelot. I went to the architecture and heritage commission on July 9 and said “We will rebuild Notre-Dame identically”. A decision that made people cringe. “It didn't rain everywhere but, forcing fate, I believe it was something important, she continued. When my chief of staff who was waiting for me at the exit told me: “They are very, very angry at the Élysée”, I said that I would wait for the phone call from the President of the Republic, I am not talking not to the underling.”

On the occasion of the reopening of Notre-Dame, Jeff Wittenberg, journalist from France Télévisions, revealed on X (formerly Twitter) a video in which Roselyne Bachelot entered the cathedral for the first time after the end of the work. “Roselyne Bachelot moved to tears by rediscovering Notre-Dame , wrote the journalist in the caption. This morning, the woman who was Minister of Culture from July 2020 and supervised the reconstruction of the cathedral entered the restored building for the first time.” Unable to hold back her tears, the former minister shared her impressions after discovering the place. “I think back to my first visit among the rubble, among the dust…, this iron cathedral which filled this nave”, she declared. Before continuing with emotion: “I think back to Jean-Louis Georgelin (general, former chief of staff of the armed forces chosen by President Emmanuel Macron to supervise the reconstruction work of Notre-Dame, died in 2023, Editor's note). It’s too beautiful, too beautiful.”
