The Spotify Wrapped 2024 year-end data dive is out — and Taylor Swift is again at the top.
Swift ranked as the No. 1 most-streamed artist globally in 2024 on Spotify, nabbing the crown for the second year in a row. That’s largely on the strength of her latest album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” which was the most-streamed album of the year on Spotify. All told, Swift’s Music generated more than 26.6 billion streams on the platform this year.
After Swift, Spotify’s most-streamed artists of the year worldwide were The Weeknd, Bad Bunny, Drake and Billie Eilish. (See full top 10 lists of artists, albums, songs and more below.)
Swift’s “Tortured Poets” broke several Spotify records, including becoming the first album to top 300 million streams in one day and more than 1 billion in the first week of release. Its massive popularity led a banner year for women artists — who landed the top eight of the 10 most-streamed albums worldwide on Spotify. Those were “Hit Me Hard and Soft” by Billie Eilish (No. 2), Sabrina Carpenter’s “Short n’ Sweet” (No. 3), Karol G’s “Mañana Será Bonito” (No. 4), Ariana Grande’s “Eternal Sunshine” (No. 5), Swift’s “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” (No. 6), SZA’s “SOS” (No. 7) and Swift’s “Lover” (No. 8).
To celebrate Swift’s reprise as the most-streamed artist, Spotify is adding some sprinkles on top for her fans. For the first time, Spotify is adding a Wrapped badge to Taylor Swift’s Spotify profile, marking the inaugural year of what the company says will be an annual distinction. In addition, Spotify is launching an Easter egg experience for Swifties: When listening to Taylor songs on Spotify, fans will see custom mini-animations tailored to the eras of her discography on the app’s play button (for example, there will be sparkles for “Fearless (Taylor’s Version)” and seagulls for “1989 (Taylor’s Version).” In a partnership with Snapchat, Swift fans worldwide will find special 2024 Wrapped bracelets — featuring a Global Top Artist Badge charm — through an AR lens in the Snapchat app. Also, Spotify will launch out-of-home installations featuring Swift in cities including New York, Toronto, Jakarta, São Paolo, Manila, Mexico City, London, Berlin, Los Angeles, Nashville and Miami.
Meanwhile, Spotify’s most-streamed songs worldwide in 2024 were: Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso,” with more than 1.6 billion streams globally, followed by Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things,” Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather,” “Gata Only” by FloyyMenor and Cris MJ, and Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control.”
Spotify also unveiled the top podcasts of the year, led by “The Joe Rogan Experience” and Alex Cooper’s “Call Her Daddy.” (See the ranking of the top 50 U.S. podcasts on Spotify at this link.) In addition, Spotify Wrapped for the first time features the top audiobooks of the year, with Sarah J. Maas coming in as the No. 1 most-streamed author and her hit fantasy-romance “A Court of Thorns and Roses” series claiming the top audiobook spot.
Users will be able to access their personalized 2024 Wrapped Experience in the Spotify mobile app starting Wednesday. Returning this year are thank-you clips from thousands of artists to their top fans, including Billie Eilish, Sabrina Carpenter, Peso Pluma, Rosé and Usher.
New this year in Wrapped: Your Music Evolution, a data story that promises to reveal “the musical phases that uniquely defined your year”; each user will see up to three musical phases, which will be displayed with descriptors, genres and artists. In addition, fans will now get to see the artist they enjoyed most this year with “Longest Listening Streak,” alongside “Top Listeners” that reveals what percentile of listeners you’re in for your favorite artist.
Also new is an AI-generated podcast about your 2024 Spotify Wrapped music listening, built using Google’s NotebookLM AI tool and narrated by two hosts (available in English in select markets). In addition, Spotify’s AI DJ will provide commentary about your Wrapped (available in English and Spanish) and the AI Playlist feature will let Premium users create personalized playlists using their Wrapped data.
