For the 2025 edition of the Ouagadougou film festival, 1,351 films were selected by an international selection committee.
After the official visual of Fespaco was unveiled on Tuesday in Ouagadougou, it was the turn of the general delegate, Alex Moussa Sawadogo, to announce that 1,351 films had been selected. Among them, 81 films and 5 Burkinabè series with a massive participation of fiction are recorded.
At Fespaco post-production level, 210 films were received.
Exceptionally, registrations are chargeable for this edition.
“This caused controversy all over the professional world. Despite the fact that the call for films is paid, we received many more films. This is huge compared to the previous edition,” rejoiced the general delegate.
For other related activities, the report totals 66 communications at the level of conferences and panels with 33 already retained.
The critics’ week, the Thomas Sankara prize for pan-Africanism, the public prize, the exhibition of cinema personalities are, among others, innovations of this edition.
Also Fespaco 2025, there are 9 projection screens, 9 official sites and 9 off-site screens.
Launched on October 30, 2023, film registrations continue until December 21, 2024.
Fespaco takes place from February 22 to March 1, 2025, under the theme “African Cinema and Cultural Identities”.
