Michel Barnier is expected tomorrow at 10 a.m. at the Élysée to submit the resignation of his government to Emmanuel Macron, following the adoption of the motion of censure by the National Assembly.
Michel Barnier is expected this Thursday, December 5 at 10 a.m. at the Élysée to submit his resignation and that of his government to Emmanuel Macron, following the adoption of the motion of censure by the deputies, BFMTV learned from reliable sources.
The National Assembly brought down the government of Michel Barnier, through the votes of the far right and the New Popular Front. Returning from Saudi Arabia, Emmanuel Macron wants to find a successor to Michel Barnier very quickly, by appointing a new Prime Minister “in 24 hours.”
Emmanuel Macron wants to “go quickly”
“He does not want to appear without a government in front of Trump this weekend. It is a question of credibility for France,” judges a close friend of the head of state.
The American president-elect will be in Paris for the reopening of Notre-Dame Cathedral this December 8. “We have 26 days to come up with a budget. He can't afford to waste time. This is the first time I feel like he wants to move quickly,” continues this relative. “The coalition of irresponsible people must assume its responsibilities,” declared a close friend of Emmanuel Macron to BFMTV, a few moments after the government’s censorship.
According to Aurore Bergé, the government is not in charge of current affairs as it was after the dissolution, proclaimed on June 9. The ministers having been censored, they can no longer sit in the National Assembly.
For this reason, Emmanuel Macron needs to move quickly. The head of state could therefore appoint a Prime Minister and a very tight government by Monday in order to continue the examination of budgetary texts in the National Assembly.
The names of Sébastien Lecornu, current Minister of the Armed Forces, and François Bayrou were mentioned.
