Julen Lopetegui was never going to bring a “full-throttle attack” to West Ham with him after replacing David Moyes, Simon Jordan has said.

Speaking on talkSPORT (3 December, 12:57pm), Jordan said that with Lopetegui new in the job and several new signings in the team, it’s going to take time to reach the heights hit by Moyes.

Reminding fans that the new-look Hammers aren’t able to run before they can walk, Jordan argued fans should have known about Lopetegui’s style of football before he took charge.

Jordan said: “Where would people expect them to be? Better than 14th I suspect, because they’ve done better than 14th recently with a manager that they didn’t want.

“They’ve got a manager that’s supposedly leading a new revolution, and supposedly a manager that’s going to bring a style of play that West Ham fans like.

“I’m not entirely sure where they’ve got that idea from, because if you look at the versions of the teams that he’s managed before, they haven’t been this all-encompassing, romantic, full-throttle attack.”

Julen Lopetegui yet to find his feet at West Ham United

It’s unclear just as to when Lopetegui’s intended style of play – and the results it could yield – will click at the London Stadium, but Hammers fans will be hoping that moment comes sooner rather than later.

As the Irons prepare to face Leicester City on Tuesday, the verdict on Lopetegui is a mixed one, with fans yet to see his side put together a string of consistent performances or results so far this season.

Following up an impressive 2-0 win at Newcastle with a 5-2 humbling by Arsenal six days later – in which they were 4-0 down inside 36 minutes – shows just how unpredictable West Ham are at the moment.

However, with a winnable run of games coming up, starting with Tuesday’s trip to the King Power Stadium, Lopetegui has a chance to finally establish what his Hammers side will look like in the long run.

Pressure on the Spaniard has barely eased after the Arsenal defeat took him right back to square one, but Leicester should be a good litmus test of just how much progress Lopetegui has made thus far.

In other West Ham news, Lopetegui is expected to make two changes against Leicester as the Irons welcome back a key player.
