WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – We are starting out December just as cold and gloomy as we were the final week of November. These first couple days of the work week will feature calmer winds than we had at times last week.
For Monday, highs are expected to top out in the mid-20s in the Northwoods and upper-20s around Highway 29 and further south.
Lake effect snow remains possible up in the very far Northwoods today. Iron & Vilas Counties are both under a Winter Weather Advisory until 6 PM this evening, with up to 2 to 4 inches of snow possible in communities along and near Lake Superior or the Wisconsin/Michigan border. None of this lake effect snow should make its way toward Highway 29 or further south locally.
Our best chance for snow this week will come on Wednesday. A cold front will pass through Wednesday morning, bringing snow and very gusty winds behind it. Snow should be mostly light, under 1-2″ for most of our area. However, slick spots will be possible on roads with single digit low temperatures expected behind the cold front.
To go along with the snow, we will also have very gusty winds. These winds could gust as high as 35-40 MPH Wednesday afternoon & evening. As a result, the wind chill will drop to sub-zero again. Thursday and Friday are both trending especially chilly before we “warm up” into the weekend. More snow is possible this weekend, but it is too early to tell how much we will get.
