A little over a year before the 2026 municipal elections, the starting line for the race for Paris mayor is already well stocked. Without waiting for Anne Hidalgo to announce that she will not run for a third term – which she did on Tuesday, November 26, in an interview with Monde –, applications have multiplied in recent weeks, on both the left and the right.

Within the Socialist Party, the senator and president of the Paris group in common at the Council of Paris, Rémi Féraud, is the candidate now officially supported by Anne Hidalgo. Former mayor of 10e borough and long-time loyal to the outgoing mayor, he took a step forward on November 11 by declaring that he “Prepared.”[ait] » to be a candidate for the municipal elections for the left. For a long time, this role of dolphin was assumed by Emmanuel Grégoire, until he left City Hall to be elected to the National Assembly during the early legislative elections in July.

“More determined than ever” to take the mayor's chair, with whom he is today at odds, he declared on November 19 that he wanted “bring a new story for Paris, a new proposition, a new project” and already have the support of 450 socialist activists from the Paris federation (out of 3,000). He is also due to kick off his campaign at a rally on Tuesday.

Gabriel Attal candidat ?

The two socialists will have to reckon with the senator and co-president of the Communist and Citizen group at the Council of Paris: Ian Brossat made it known a few days later Emmanuel Grégoire that he too was ” available “ and ready to participate in a possible primary in the event of Anne Hidalgo's non-candidacy. Among the Ecologists, who are also part of the municipal majority, no one has yet declared themselves but the Parisian activists have ruled out, for the first time, the principle of an independent candidacy in principle. But Paris senator Yannick Jadot or deputy mayor David Belliard, who was already a candidate in 2020, could be tempted, especially since they believe that the time has come for one of their own to occupy the place of number one at City Hall.

On the side of La insoumise, with which the socialists and communists refuse to associate, the question of lists is not yet on the agenda and the idea of a candidacy of the deputy of the 6e constituency of Paris, Sophia Chikirou, is still only a hypothesis.
