Sophie Binet, general secretary of the CGT, was the guest of BFMTV this Sunday, November 24 to debate in particular the proposal of the left-wing deputies of reduce the retirement age from 64 to 62adopted on November 20 by the Social Affairs Committee of the National Assembly. It was in fact approved by 35 votes (left and RN) for and 16 votes against, from the ranks of the center and the right. For the architects of this proposal, this first victory is encouraging for in fineobtain the repeal of the pension reform.
«I solemnly call on all deputies to respect their mandate, to respect their voters. The vast majority want the pension reform to be repealed […] so we must respect this opinion of the voters, we must respect democracy and let parliament decide“, declared the trade unionist. And to continue by recalling that according to her, “if parliament was unable to decide, it is because of the 49-3 put in place by the government». She also judges that“there is no democracy in the world where there could be the same situation, that is to say a reform imposed despite a six-month mobilization, despite the opposition of almost all French people and without no vote in parliament». «The National Assembly must be able to vote», she concludes.
Pension reform: what would really happen if it were repealed in 2025?
The center and the right denounce an “irresponsible” text
Note that the starting age is not the only element concerned by the proposal of the left-wing deputies, which also brings the contribution period of 43 to 42 years. These two components combined therefore amount to also repealing the reform carried out in 2013 by Marisol Touraine under the Hollande five-year term, notes The World. The amendment presented by the centrists of the Libertés, Indépendants, Outre-mer et Territoires (LIOT) group to preserve the Touraine reform was therefore rejected.
Among those who opposed this proposal, some pointed out a “not serious” text or “irresponsible”. Renaissance MP Stéphanie Rist does not budge: “If this pension reform is repealed, they will certainly be able to leave at 60, but with a much lower pension.“. The proposal will be debated in the hemicycle of the National Assembly on Thursday, November 28.
