On the eve of the announcement of the winners of the World Travel Awards, which this year are holding their global gala in Madeira, at the Savoy Palace Hotel, the president of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque, guaranteed that he has no doubt that the Region will reinforce its position as prominent in global tourism.
“We are going to win, as always”, he told DIÁRIO, upon arrival at the Gala Dinner at the Santo da Serra Golf Club, which takes place this evening at the Hotel Pestana Casino Park.
In this year’s edition, Destino Madeira is in the fight to win 5 awards, being nominated for the categories of ‘Best Adventure Destination’, ‘Best Festival and Event Destination’, ‘Best Beach Destination’, ‘Best Island Destination’ and ‘Best Tourism Entity’ (Madeira Promotion Association).
The World Travel Awards, established 31 years ago (1993), are given annually to recognise, reward and celebrate excellence across all key sectors of the travel, tourism and hospitality industries. Since 2013, Destination Madeira has received a total of 21 awards at European and global galas of the so-called ‘Tourism Oscar’. Last March, at the WTA European gala, the Region was triple awarded: it was once again the ‘Best Island Destination in Europe’, Porto Santo won in the ‘Best Beach Destination in Europe’ category and the Madeira Promotion Association as ‘Best Tourism Entity in Europe'”, recalls the Regional Secretariat.
