Kiev had been demanding it for months: after new Russian strikes on Ukraine, the Biden administration finally authorized Ukraine to use long-range American missiles to strike targets on Russian territory. And this a few weeks before Donald Trump takes office.

For the Kremlin, this decision will “continue to add fuel to the fire”, and Russia promises an “appropriate” response in the event of kyiv using American missiles against its territory. Decoding with Alain De Neve, defense analyst at the Royal Higher Institute of Defense (Brussels).

Washington will therefore authorize kyiv to use its missiles against targets in Russia: will this measure have a significant military impact?
