A septuagenarian died on Sunday afternoon on the Alès racing circuit. He was driving a Renault Alpine rented for the occasion when for a reason still unknown, he hit a safety barrier. The man died instantly.

This accident caused another victim, the passenger of the car, also in his seventies. He had to be extricated and quickly taken care of by emergency services, but he could not be revived.

According to initial information, the car was driving fast on the track in a straight line, just before a right turn which it did not take. There would be no sign of braking before impact.

The Alès public prosecutor confirmed that an investigation into the causes of death was opened, that toxicological analyzes on the driver were carried out and that a technical expertise of the vehicle was decided. Finally, an autopsy will be carried out on the two victims.
