Tested for two years, this increase in the number of hours of sport for adolescents is considered too complex to generalize. It will now only concern colleges classified as REP/REP+.

The experiment has been underway for two years: in more than 700 establishments, middle school students had two more hours of sport per week. But he is not “not sustainable” to generalize this measure, indicates the Ministry of National Education on its website. The test is therefore finished.
These two hours “more physical and sporting activity per week” at college aimed “to support the sporting practice of middle school students” dropouts, recalls the ministry. Tested since November 7, 2022, the system currently concerns 715 voluntary establishments. There were only 140 who entered in the first year.
The ministry estimates that the results of the first two years of experimentation “demonstrated the relevance of the measure for middle school students far from regular practice, its complementarity with physical and sports education (PE) and the offer of school sports associations”. But he is “still perceived as complex to implement and its generalization to all 7 000 colleges does not appear sustainable”adds the ministry.
These two additional hours will therefore be refocused “only on colleges classified as REP/REP+, territories where the license rate [sportive] is the weakest”. “The target audience is maintained in its definition and the school community is given greater responsibility in its deployment”specifies the ministry.
At the start of the 2023 school year, Emmanuel Macron expressed his desire to generalize the system from 2026 to all 7,000 colleges in France. Thought to complement the PE included in the program, these two additional hours aim to “promote, through a new fun and sports offering, regular physical activity among middle school students who are not registered in a club or school association”.
