In a speech delivered in Guédiawaye, Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko expressed his support for the application of a policy of reciprocity in matters of visas, stressing that any country requiring a visa for the entry of Senegalese into its territory should, in turn, subject Senegalese citizens to similar requirements.
“A country that asks us for a visa must be subject to the same requirement from us,” he insisted, citing countries like France and the United States. This declaration is part of a desire to strengthen bilateral relations while preserving Senegal’s interests. Ousmane Sonko also took a position in favor of the identification of foreigners present in Senegal, including those from member countries of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). Although the latter benefit from a right of free movement within the region, the Prime Minister considered that it was necessary to better identify and manage foreign populations residing on Senegalese territory.
