New French series on TF1 from this Monday evening. Its name: Cat's Eyes. A detective series which features three sisters with the monuments of Paris in the background. We present it to you.

A manga from the 80s

“Cat's eyes, signed Cat's eyes…” If you were a child in the 80s, you probably haven't forgotten the credits of this Japanese manga broadcast on FR3 (formerly 3). “Cat’s Eye”, in French, was born in 1981 in Japan in the mind of Tsubasa Hôjô, author of “Nicky Larson”. Two years later, the manga became an animated series that lasted two seasons. “Cat's Eyes” recounted the adventures of the Chamade sisters, Cylia, Alex and Tam, who ran a café by day and turned into thieves by night to find the works of art that had belonged to their artist father. TF1 has also kept the original song from the manga's credits, rearranged and performed by singer Anne Sylla.

A director who is a fan of the manga

The creator of the TF1 mini-series Michel Catz is a fan of “Cat’s Eyes”. The Japanese Tsubasa Hôjô ensured, during the writing of the script and the filming, that the series would not distort his work: “A manga based on art thieves, with relationships of love and “friendship, all punctuated by action and humor”.

A scenario worthy of “Cat's Eyes”

In the first episode broadcast this Monday evening, Tamara, who has been gone for a long time, returns to Paris to investigate the mysterious death of her father, who disappeared in the fire of his gallery, 10 years previously. Helped by her sisters Sylvia and Alexia, she will follow in the footsteps of a painting which had supposedly been destroyed in the fire, and which reappeared during an exhibition at the Eiffel Tower. The trio will carry out the investigation but find Quentin Chapuis, captain of the banditry suppression brigade, on their way.

A successful casting

The actresses chosen to play the three sisters are Camille Lou (Tamara), Constance Labbé (Sylvia) and Claire Romaincarnent (Alexia). Quentin Chapuis is played by MB14, alias Mohamed Belkhir, beatbox specialist, revealed in the 5th season of “The Voice”, the year when Slimane won the show. The cast also welcomes actress Carole Bouquet, Elodie Fontan in the role of a hired killer and Grégory Fitoussi.

A TF1/Prime Video production

Postcard scenery, breathtaking chases, stunts… the mini-series benefited from a substantial budget of 25 million euros. The heroines insisted on carrying out most of the stunts themselves. The TF1 group produces the series in partnership with Prime Video, Amazon's video-on-demand service. “I always thought that we could find a modus vivendi with international platforms […] We are having discussions with most of them to help them benefit from TF1's know-how in its ability to produce content with high added value for the French public. In exchange, they offer us global exposure,” explained to West France the deputy general director of content of the TF1 Group Ara Aprikian. The first season has eight episodes. The three actresses have signed for three seasons.
