For the Pole, it was only the second defeat against this rival in the 13th meeting.

After this defeat, Iga Świątek's situation in terms of advancing to the semi-finals became much more complicated. The Pole dropped to third place in the orange group. She is overtaken by the American and Barbora Krejcikova.
