OUR VERDICT. Touba from anti-hero to hero of the evening at KV Mechelen, substitutes show themselves again

BASIC SELF:

Ortwin De Wolf 6

Chose the wrong angle for the penalty that his teammate Touba had caused. Little else was put to the test.

Toon Raemaekers 5 (’85)

Played with confidence in recent weeks, but that confidence visibly dropped after an accumulation of wrong passes. All in all, they recovered in the second half.

Ahmed Touba 5

Looked very laconic. After less than twenty minutes, he made a reckless mistake in his own box: the 0-1 was his fault. Was on a tube for almost the entire match, until his equalizer in the ultimate final. He made up for his mistake after all.

José Marsà 6

An incorrect assessment and drawing error earned him a yellow card early in the second half. His intervention kept Fuseini from making it 0-2.

Rafik Belghali 6

Came into the team at the expense of Pflücke. Only created the first Mechelen danger in minute 38, but he kicked over rashly. He did that from a distance in the second half. Made good use of the spaces on his right flank.

Rob Schoofs 6

Played his 250th (!) match in yellow-red. His attempt just after half time was a success, but it’s a pity that he missed the goal.

Aziz Ouattara 5 (’46)

The game already started with two hospital balls. Had to stay in the locker room during halftime, although that was for tactical reasons.

Daam Foulon 6

Rediscovered his trademark with unstoppable rushes, although those rushes tended to come out defensively. Was once again tireless.

Kerim Mrabti 7

It was a surprise in the starting line-up after two weeks of absence due to a rib injury. Immediately got into the match with a nice through pass to Belghali. Played top-quality football all evening, with the exception of a few minor flaws. He headed well at the end and provided the assist for the equalizer.

Nikola Storm 6 (’72)

Constantly threatened and was very good on the ball. Was one of the better Mechelen players, his forced substitution due to an injury was a loss for KV.

Benito Raman 5 (’72)

There was an upset outside with Burgess invisible in the first half. After the break, the Mechelen sniper was immediately dangerous with two attempts, one of which should have gone in.

INvaders:

Lion Lauberbach (’46) 6

Left out of the squad, somewhat surprising given his excellent form in recent weeks. With his contribution after half-time, KV Mechelen was a lot more dangerous, but the German could not make any progress. His miss in stoppage time was extremely painful.

Bilal Bafdili (’72) 7 (’90+5)

Created more attacking spirit and that was much needed. His corner kick was responsible for the equalizer. Was replaced again in the closing seconds for an extra defender.

Petter Nosa Dahl (’72) 7

Immediately showed himself with some successful dribbles. Forced the corner kick from which the eventual equalizer fell.

Patrick Pflecke (’85) –

Came in too late for a review. Dropped a beautiful cross into the box, but neither Touba nor Lauberbach could finish.

Jules Van Cleemput (’90+5) –

Was brought in in the closing seconds to help defend the point.
