November 13 – 7.56pm – TORINO
The support, the passion and the drive of the Inalpi Arena in Turin are not enough: Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori surrender to the Germans Krawietz-Puetz in two sets 7-5 6-4 and have to play it all out on Friday in the last match of the group against Arevalo-Pavic, favorites on the eve but defeated on their debut by the Germans who lead the group undefeated. Yesterday Arevalo and Pavic beat Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden (former ATP number 1 and now number 6) in two sets. Simone and Andrea, Slam finalists at the Australian Open and Roland Garros, have won three titles this year on three different surfaces and will be in Davis’ team for the title defense in Malaga from November 21st.

It was a fairly balanced match, resolved on a few points. In the first set Bolelli and Vavassori cancel a set point at 5-4 for the Germans and bring home the 5-5 but, at 6-5, they find themselves in trouble again: they cancel another point of the set and at 40- 40 the Germans manage to close by winning the first set 7-5. Great balance also in the second set, with Bolelli and Vavassori first saving themselves at the killer point for the 4-4, then trying to sprint forward in the 9th game taking 0-30 on the opponent’s serve. The German couple, however, reacts immediately by clinging to the serve and leads 5-4. Immediately afterwards, the Azzurri concede three match points. Bolelli cancels the first with the serve, then a forehand into the net again by the Bolognese seals the victory for Krawietz and Puetz who thus reach the semi-final thanks to the two victories in the group.
