Nice move made by the MHSC in its quest for a rebound in Ligue 1: the Héraultais have just formalized the signing of Nikola Maksimovic, a Serbian international defender who has notably played for Napoli and Torino. The 32-year-old has been free since the end of his adventure at Hatayspor.
The Hérault ship has been sinking for several weeks, and a Serbian international will be tasked with bailing out. In great difficulty in Ligue 1, where it has lost seven of its nine matches (also a victory and a draw), Montpellier is strengthening its defense with an experienced player.
Last in the French championship, the MHSC announced this Thursday the arrival of Serbian international Nikola Maksimovic (25 caps). Aged 32, the tall defender (1.93m) had been without a club since July 1 and the end of his adventure in Türkiye, at Hatayspor.

More than 3 goals conceded per match
Maksimovic spent a good part of his career in Italy, where he notably wore the jerseys of Naples, Torino and Genoa. Capable in the past of playing as a defensive midfielder, the Serbian has not played since the end of April, in the Turkish Süper Lig.
In France, he will have the heavy responsibility of awakening the worst defense in the championship – 29 goals conceded in 9 matches, an average of 3.2 per match -, which had notably conceded six in Paris, and five against OM. The men of Jean-Louis Gasset, appointed in mid-October for a rescue mission, remain on a scathing 0-3 at home against Toulouse, before challenging Le Havre on Sunday (5 p.m.).
