A Télé-Québec program strongly singled out

A few days ago, Télé-Québec unveiled the trailer for the documentary “Alphas”, which will be broadcast starting November 11.

Hosted by journalist Simon Coutu, the report focuses on the movement of “alpha males”, that is, young men who put forward a lifestyle where they assert their masculinity based on traditional values within which women must be subject to them.

This phenomenon, which has increased thanks to social networks since the COVID-19 pandemic, worries (rightly) more than one, and this is undoubtedly what motivated co-directors Simon Coutu and Manuelle Légaré to immerse themselves in this new controversial reality.

On Télé-Québec’s Instagram page, where the trailer was published on Tuesday, several critics of the “alpha male” phenomenon said they were outraged by the public broadcaster’s decision to cover this current topic.

According to them, by broadcasting a documentary which delves into the heart of the phenomenon and which gives voice to some of its most bellicose Quebec actors, Télé-Québec contributes to offering an additional platform to men who advocate a masculinity perceived as toxic.

Here are some comments collected under the publication:

In view of the outcry caused by its publication, Télé-Québec wanted to set the record straight.

“Small clarification: Alphas is NOT promoting this movement. Rather, we carry out an investigation to understand:

➡️ Why does this phenomenon exist?

➡️ What attracts young people to this ideology

➡️How is it spreading on the networks”, mentioned, in comments, the Fullum Street channel.
