A former English championship star has made a surprising revelation about his life at his new club.
Andy Carroll made a bold decision this summer by joining the Girondins de Bordeaux. The English striker, under contract with Amiens SC since September 2023, managed to reach an agreement with the Picardy club to break his commitment and sign freely with FCGB.
The gesture of the former Liverpool striker, who came to lend a hand to the Bordelais, now relegated to National 2, takes on even more weight in the light of his recent statements. Indeed, according to the Gateshead native, his current salary would be far from covering his expenses.
Caroll snubs Saudi Arabia
“3,500 euros per month? Oh no, it’s much less. I won’t tell you the exact figure, but to give you an idea, since I’ve lived here, I’ve been renting a nice little house and my salary is less than my rent.” he declared. in the columns of The Team. An internal source at the Haillan-based club even specified that the 35-year-old striker’s income was less than 2,500 euros per month.
Andy Caroll, however, seems to have made a conscious choice by joining the south-west of France, while he was also courted by Saudi clubs. “If I joined Bordeaux, it’s obviously not for the money. I actually had offers to play in Saudi Arabia, but that didn’t interest me.” he concluded.
