Hurricane Milton: what are the impacts on flights to Florida?

The hurricane is expected to be a Category 3 when it reaches the west coast of Florida on Wednesday. Despite the approaching storm, several people were waiting to leave for Florida at Montreal-Trudeau airport on Tuesday.

“I’m not too afraid, I go there mainly to make sure that the house is correct and that everything is fine” mentions a man met by Noovo Info who has a property in Miami.

Noovo Info contacted certain airlines to get a picture of the situation for flights to Florida.

Air Transat tells us that for the moment, only one of its routes in Florida could be affected by Hurricane Milton, namely the return flights between Montreal and Orlando scheduled for Thursday, October 10.

“We will carefully monitor the situation and inform our passengers of any possible changes. Their safety is our top priority,” the company said by email.

For its part, Air Canada confirms that it has canceled certain flights this week, Tuesday and Wednesday from Toronto and Montreal to Tampa and Orlando. The company says it also increased capacity and deployed larger planes Monday and Tuesday for customers who wanted to travel before the storm.

Remember that the Government of Canada has issued a warning to the population, advising them to avoid all non-essential travel to certain areas of the east coast and west coast of Florida.

Emmanuelle Lachance, from Montreal, was supposed to leave Thursday morning for Orlando for a business convention, but her trip had to be canceled due to the hurricane. She mentions, in an interview with Noovo Info, that she does not know if her plane tickets will be reimbursed.

“I don’t really know yet how this will happen, but I trust the airlines,” she emphasizes.

“Refunds will take place more at the regulatory level so if the flight is canceled, this gives the right to refunds.”

Jacob Charbonneau, president of Late Flight.

According to the president of Late Flight, Jacob Charbonneau, there are several options available in situations like these.

“If the convention gets canceled, maybe they’ll just change the ticket date. Otherwise, future travel credits could be offered,” indicates Mr. Charbonneau.
