There will be no transfer of power, but, as the law indicates, Michel Gonordmayor of Champagne-sur-Seine since 2014, will officially become deputy for the third constituency of Seine-et-Marne (cantons of Moret, Montereau, Mormant, Le Châtelet-en-Brie) on October 27, one month to the day after the appointment of Jean-Louis Thiériot in government. Quite a surprise for the one who was the replacement for the brand new minister delegate during the last early legislative elections.

“It was not at all planned”

“It wasn’t planned at all. When Jean-Louis called me to tell me he was moving up, I really didn’t expect it. Afterwards, I am mayor, I know the problems of elected officials and those administered, so it does not panic me. On the contrary, if I can serve the territory more widely, that suits me well. On the other hand, Champagne remains my priority », assures the elected official.

Married, father of four children and grandfather of 14 grandchildren, Michel Gonord, 69 years old and a Champenois for more than 30 years, is retired fromEDFof which he has long been executive officer in charge of city policy, solidarity and social housing. His priorities in the Assembly will therefore not be linked to the subject of National Defense, of which Jean-Louis Thiériot was a specialist, but rather to thehabitat.

“In my town, housing is my first priority. At the national level, I have many ideas about decentralization of housing policy. This is an opportunity for me to put forward proposals that move towards better social and urban diversity. I will therefore not be part of the same commission as my predecessor, but of that of economic affairs “, he explains.

“My local involvement will remain complete”

On the other hand, Michel Gonord wants to maintain the same line of conduct in the constituency as the former mayor of Beauvoir: “I want to be able to help mayors as much as Jean-Louis helped them. We share the same values of loyalty, work and general interest. I will therefore be keen, like him, to move things forward as much as possible at the local level,” he adds.

However, Michel Gonord does not intend to leave aside the important issues that he launched in recent years in his commune of Champagne-sur-Seine.

“I cannot remain mayor, since multiple mandates are not authorized. However, I have numerous discussions currently underway with my municipal team and with the community of municipalities so that the relay can be taken over. But my local involvement will remain complete. In Champagne, we have a major project to restructure the heart of the city, and I am going to keep this file under management,” he specifies.

Finally, as for the election of the new mayor of Champagne-sur-Seine, it will be done in municipal council, in the weeks following Michel Gonord’s taking office as deputy.

« I will propose my first deputy (Didier Keriger, editor’s note), but it’s an election, so it’s the council that will decide. It will be the same for the Moret Seine & Loing community of communes, where a vice-president will have to be re-elected in my place,” he concludes.
