How to judge Grégoire Munster’s 2024 WRC season? From an accounting point of view, the results are not exceptional with only 27 points (compared to 29 for Andreas Mikkelsen who only competed in… three rallies) and a 6th place as best classification. At the same time, his teammate at M-Sport, Adrien Fourmaux, collected 140 points and four podiums of his own.

However, this would be to overlook the essential: the Belgian, who rides under a Luxembourg license, is competing in his first full season in the premier category. Consequently, some rallies were still unknown to him and Grégoire Munster suffered on terrain that he was still discovering. If the comparison is quite painful compared to his teammate over the whole season, the Belgian defended himself rather well in the events he had already competed in, in Rally2 in particular.

Munster highlights progress made in 2024

In Chile, a rally he competed in with the Ford Puma Rally1 in 2023, Grégoire Munster was not ridiculous and concluded the South American event in 7th place. If the pace is still behind the other competitors in the premier category, the Belgian believes he has shown good things aboard the Ford. “I think we showed everyone that we can fight at the top or very close to it once we know the stages and have done them before with a Rally1. »

The question remains whether Grégoire Munster has sufficiently convinced the leaders of M-Sport for him to keep his seat within the British team in 2025… “We showed our progress compared to last year when we drove this car for the first time in Chile, he says. It was positive for me. We are doing everything we can to try to stay in the Puma next season, but we know there are not many places. We’re up against world champions in these cars, so it’s not easy, but I think we’re showing consistency. We’re now heading to Central Europe, where conditions will be tricky, but it’s my favorite surface. So I’m looking forward to it. »

Grégoire Munster’s place is indeed not yet assured in 2025: if the Belgian is financially supported by Jourdan Serderidis in particular, he could still see his position being threatened by Martisn Sesks, impressive during his appearances in Rally1 this season. The vagueness surrounding Adrien Fourmaux’s future at M-Sport could, however, save him the day. To be continued.
