The Mohammed V University of Rabat (UM5R) hosted, on October 4, the conference entitled “Morocco, a flagship destination for medical tourism in Africa”. Co-organized by the Trophée de l’Africanité Foundation and UM5R, this event brought together numerous personalities, experts and speakers of high caliber and from diverse backgrounds, highlighting the growing role of Morocco as a leader in medical tourism on the African continent.
On this occasion, Farid El Bacha, interim president of UM5R, opened the conference by reaffirming the university’s commitment to inter-African solidarity, echoing the royal vision, which places Morocco at the center of reforms in the health and tourism infrastructure sectors. These efforts are designed to promote excellence in medical services while meeting a growing demand for quality care on the African continent.
For his part, Nasrallah Belkhayate, president of the Trophée de l’Africanité Foundation, highlighted a flagship project: the creation of the Atlantic federation of medical research. This project aims to facilitate access to healthcare for Sahel countries across an Atlantic corridor, thus strengthening medical and scientific exchanges between African nations.
From a diplomatic perspective, Emmanuel Saye Larmeh, Minister Counselor of the Embassy of Liberia and President of the Association of African Diplomats in Morocco, highlighted the need for stronger mobilization of diplomats to support Morocco in its quest leadership in medical tourism.
The interventions of specialists also enriched the debate. Nawal Rabii, president of the Moroccan Association for Oral Prevention (AMPBD), shared innovative initiatives aimed at improving oral health in Africa. As for Ilham Moumna, medical biologist, she insisted on the crucial role of medical biology in the care of medical tourists. For his part, Younes Kbibchi, public health expert, outlined the challenges facing Africa in terms of health, while making recommendations aimed at strengthening the standards and infrastructure of the medical tourism sector.
One of the highlights of the ceremony was the tribute paid to three personalities for their dedication to Africa: Farid El Bacha, Nawal Rabii and Emmanuel Saye Larmeh. In addition, the event recognized the success of eight doctors who completed their training as part of the Masterclass, a medical development program.
In a symbolic gesture, a partnership agreement was signed between the AMPBD and the Trophée de l’Africanité Foundation, formalizing the launch of medical caravans across Africa, a humanitarian project aimed at promoting health and solidarity on the continent.
Younes Kbibchi concluded by formulating recommendations to consolidate Morocco’s position in this area. These recommendations include the adoption of rigorous ethical standards, the development of appropriate infrastructure and the creation of an environment conducive to the growth of medical tourism.
