Violent clashes after -, the ultras spoil the party… – Olympique Lyonnais

On the sidelines of Olympique Lyonnais’ victory against FC in Ligue 1 this Sunday (2-0), some ultras from Virage decided to spoil the party by provoking violent clashes with members of another group of supporters…

The post-match between Lyon and Nantes should have resulted in a great end to the festive afternoon, given OL’s victory against the Canaries. A fourth success in a row in all competitions which allows OL to move back into the first part of the table and regain morale after a failed start to the season. Despite all that, the end of the match turned into drama for some OL supporters…

An ultra injured by a stab

Since according to different sources, violence took place between two ultra groups on the square in front of Groupama Stadium. Indeed, several ultras from Virage Nord “would have attacked the members of the brand new collective of supporters the Six Nine Pirates, at the end of the match, in front of block 439”. A member of this new group of ultras even received a stab wound in the thigh, which led to the installation of several stitches in the hospital, according to the Olympique-et-Lyonnais website. But how did we get to this point? According to the Lyon media, “some members of Virage Nord were waiting at the bottom of the stand where the Six Nine Pirates reside at the final whistle” to fight it out, which gave rise to these attacks…

“Violence, whatever it may be, has no place at OL”

Acts of violence which do not pass within the management of OL, where Laurent Prud’homme spoke to firmly condemn these acts. “Violence, whatever it may be, has no place at OL. We very strongly condemn the clashes and attacks which took place in the stadium this afternoon. These events are unworthy of our coat of arms. Olympique Lyonnais must remain united and indivisible”reacted on social networks, the general director of OL, who does not accept that this violence took place at Groupama Stadium among innocent families…

Already singled out for racist scenes in the visitor park in at the start of the season, this minority of OL ultras therefore continues to be talked about badly, and the Lyon management will surely have to make decisions to prevent this kind of sad events from happening again in the future…
